Chapter Eight
Normally Fatal would feel stupid. Stupid for over thinking and letting herself get touchy and panicky. She figured it happens and it's over with so it doesn't matter. They trailed back up the steps inside the abandoned building, the steps barely holding up under their weight.
"Kobra?" Party asked.
"In here." He called back.
He followed his younger brother's voice to the last room on the right hand side of the hallway. There was nails in the wall but no pictures. He was standing by an old chestnut nightstand that had a lamp, but no shade. Or a bulb. The bed had been stripped of everything, just the wood frames. The windows were dusty and printed with hands and whatnot.
"Did you find anything?"
Kobra shook his head. Can't imagine finding anything… Everything's been looted or burned. When the Better Living Industries crap started, everyone freaked out. They were angry, forming gangs, some getting pissed and stealing everything or burning it to the ground. While other's were just smart and decided to start a revolution. An era; becoming bright from the growing grayness, and rebelling, seeming futuristic and interesting. Something you have to double take on. Something different. While these smarter kids were doing this, some stupid punks just burned shit to the ground and battered stuff with hammers and baseball bats. That died down rather quickly, some getting executed, some disappearing to god knows where.
The Killjoys; the smarter people, sure, they steal, but only because the government only gives them fucking dog food, for Christ's sake. Dog food found in vending machines as well as ammo, batteries, and pills. How they got the fruit and other goods, who knows. There's still  stores in the city, but much more altered and strange, only putting the "healthy" 'food' stuff on the shelves. Fatal thinks someone must've stuck in, somehow getting in, and stealing all the shit. But what good could be there? She's never been in one. And she never tried. She wasn't interested. There's also some secret groups passing food around like drug dealers, keeping inside the shadows from the government. It's still pretty interesting. It'd be more fun if it wasn't so serious.

"I'll be right back." Party said, patting the two on the shoulder who didn't seem to be listening.
But they gave distant nods as slight recognition. Fatal pulled open the drawer which gave out a stubborn scuff. Inside was nothing. Nothing but dust and debris. There was a lump in the carpet of shit. When she picked it up and thumbed away the dirt, she realized it was a coin. She furrowed her brows together. Before she could ponder what and why, there was a shout that brought her back to reality and reminded her she was standing in an unstable room that was being held up by unstable pillars and walls and could collapse if it wanted to.
She sprinted over to the landing area to find Party and Kobra were at the bottom landing, their back to her. Just as she was going to bolt down the steps to figure out what made them scream, there was an explosion. It happened so quick and abrupt, she didn't understand what it really was. But she was knocked back a little bit, dust getting in her eyes. Clouds of dust and loose particles were everywhere. She coughed it out and waved the air, clearing the way. It took a while before it really cleared and could see.
She was going to run down the steps to join the two, but one foot in and her toes had no landing. She staggered backwards, and realized, there was no stairs. Just a hole that was surrounded by chipped wood and sharp glass. The fall was more than ten feet down, and no way is she jumping down from the ledge.
She was still confused. Questions rambled into her brain but none made legit and full questions, just confused words and sounds that didn't flow with anything.

"FATAL!" Kobra yelled, his brother still facing the door.

When he pointed to her left, she turned to find workers with high tech guns coming around the corner. Not thinking and just needing an escape, she backed up and took a running start, jumping over the edge and to the ground eleven feet below.
She landed on her feet, but only for a millisecond before she stumbled and fell forward, spreading out her hands to catch herself. There was a gunshot, creating a hole in the floorboards near their feet.
From the door, a worker with what looks like a bag for a mask came in. She grabbed the closest thing she could find; a nail, and scooted backwards on her ass. Good thing this worker didn't have a gun; just his bare hands. But as she looked a little bit downward, on his hip, she saw there was a pistol as well as various sorts of knifes.

He drew one, the tip seeming sharp and shiny. She didn't want to know how it felt.
She got to her feet, still stumbling backwards, the rusty nail curled in her fingers. They stared at each other while in the background, she could see Party punching a man straight in the face while Kobra was nowhere to be seen.
The man in front of her started at her first. She was swift, dodging out of his range as he sliced the air. She skipped behind him, one arm locking around his neck and pulled him back. She stabbed the nail in his eye.
He let out a ear piercing shriek. He also raised his weapon and as he was going to slice her arm, she slipped away from his body, and ended up slitting his own neck.
Blood slipped down his throat and to his chest. He took his final breath, knees buckling and falling to the floor.
An arm found hers, and on impulse, she jerked it back, elbowing her attacker in the face. She did, but instead of a growl of anger, she was scolded. She just jabbed Party in the face. He was holding his nose and glaring at her, but leading her out the door regardless.

Out in the open, the others had found them somehow. They had murdered all the enemies here, and Kobra was duking it out with someone inside. He socked him in the kisser and rammed a kick to the back of his skull. The shorter man fell to the floor, motionless. Taking this as his chance, Kobra shot him in the back of the head. Twice, for good luck (get my reference?).
"How did you find us?" Fatal asked.
"Had a feelin." Fun shrugged.
"Bullshit." Toxic smirked at Fun who simply smiled and shrugged. "We got inside this old food store and a group was gonna take the place down. We ran out and they spotted us and followed us. Somehow landed here."
"It's fate." Fatal joked, holding her hands to her heart and looking up to the sky with wide eyes and a joking smile.
"It's meant to be!" Fun cried, throwing his arm around Toxic, faking tears.
"Don't cry, man!" Toxic gripped the collar of his vest and pulled him closer, "Don't do it, man!" She joined in and faked tears, wiping away her clean (clean?) cheeks.
They laughed, Fun giving Toxic a noogie which she didn't appreciate at all.
"So, did we find any stuff?" Fatal asked as she hit the road again.
Fun said "Well Jet found this radio transmission thing."
While they made their way down the road, Jet tuned into different stations. It looked like a radio, but it was bulkier, and had a screen. Fatal thought that her little 'journey' with Party and Kobra to find something was useless, just finding dust, stairs, and almost death. Well it's not like it's any different from any other day…
Jet kept switching the knob, the screen remaining fuzzy and gray. Well what else do you expect? Find something fresh and new, and actually efficient?
"Well what did we three do today?" Kobra asked, glancing to his slightly shorter brother.
He shrugged. "Well we ate some fruit, laughed at Fatal," They exchanged dirty looks. "We looked around, found nothing, saw an explosion, and watched Fatal nail a dude." He purposely made it sound dirty.
And for the other three that weren't there, took it as 'sex'. Toxic immediately stared at Fatal with wide eyes and clenched fists. Fun was laughing, and Jet wasn't listening.
"No! I literally nailed a dude. I had a nail and jabbed it in his eye." She narrowed her eyes to Party. "Fucker."
He passed her a grin. Toxic high-fived Fatal on her 'dirty work'. They walked the roads back to their car to get a move on. Further down the road, they met a crash queen on a motorcycle, hugging the stomach of her boy. Without stopping or even slowing down, the queen saluted them. Almost just as quick as Party gave a nod.
Slick. They continued their way down the zone, the sun getting higher as well as the temperature.
I wrote this a while ago. I confused myself and just did chapter nine, but the end and start point of this chapter and the previous one didn't match up, cause, gasp- it didn't make sense, and there was a chapter missing.
I was planning to make this more elaborate and just write more, but I just wrote another chapter... hehe....
But oh well. I don't think this chapter is all that necessary... but whatever. I'll post the ninth chapter soon. XD Woops.

I think it's really good.

I love the fight scene - especially accidentally thumping poison.
